Background

Singer/songwriter Chuck Angus lives in the mining town of Cobalt in Northern Ontario. In 1992 he began conducting interviews with miners and their families about life in the hardrock mining communities on Northern Ontario.

Some interviews were done in the homes of mining widows, others were conducted in bars or in mine headings 4,800 feet underground. His journey took him into smelter operations and numerous working mines.

The result of this research is Waiting for the Cage, a hard-edged look at life in the mining towns of Northern Canada. It's a journey through a land of long winters and tough dreams.

The CD-ROM

The CD-ROM was put together by graphic artists Rick Conroy (who also played piano on the CD) and Michelle Gay. The CD-ROM utilizes sound bytes from interviews, rare photographs, animation and some stunning visual effects. The poject involved eight of the top graphic artists in the field.

Waiting for the Cage is expected to sell well with CD-ROM collectors.

At the New York Expo of Short Film and Video held in November 1996, Waiting for the Cage beat out entries from all over the world as the most innovative CD-ROM.

"The CD-ROM portion of audio CDs has the potential to add a new artistic force to the recording industry. Nowhere is this more apparent than on Waiting for the Cage by the Grievous Angels...The result is one of the freshest, most interesting and unusual CD-ROMs I have seen yet."
