Nothing Noplace Zilch

November 17, 1999.

The Angels are back with a powerful new release called 22 Trailer Park. It was produced by legendary producer Michael Fonfara who has worked with such people as Rhinoceros, Lou Reed, Mutt Lang, Foreigner, Downchild. Engineering and mixing duties were handled by Alex Fraser at Liquid Sound.

There are some great new songs and some older songs that we finally got around to recording. Because of our collective mid-life crisis (and impending hearing damage), we turned up the amps and played a little harder. However there are still a good portion of ballads and folk songs. The album is full of great characters: a bitter mill worker, laid off and forced to return to school to learn basic computer skills; a young punk in love with his employer’s wife; a con in jail after a botched robbery of a “doughnut store”. There is some excellent organ work by Michael, and a sizzling duet between Chuck and Shelly Zubot (on Hot and Dusty Monday).

A national CD release party will be held at our favorite Toronto haunt, Clintons Tavern, on Saturday November 27th. Sab, who coproduced the album, and generally lit a fire under our behinds, will open up the night. The following weekend we will begin a national tour to promote CD. The band plays the Townhouse in Sudbury on Friday December 4th, and the Welcome Tavern in Timmins on Saturday December 4th. Other dates TBA.

Otherwise, the Angels are busy hurtling towards middle age. Chuck had to move to a larger hat size after being presented with the Jackie Washington Award (for outstanding contribution to Northern culture) at the Sudbury Folk Festival. The Blackflies broke up in the spring of 1999, so Tim and Peter have a bit more time on their hands. Tim is entering the teaching profession, and experiencing the joys of parenthood. Peter is busy playing with Swamperella, and is trying to make sure that his 3 row button accordion is millennium compliant. Fireman Pete now resides in St Catherines, and is spending more time playing the Mandolin.
